Dr Sean White
Sean qualified in 1988 from The London Hospital Medical College, part of The University of London. He initially specialised in anaesthetics before following sub-speciality training in Pain Medicine. After time spent in Australia he returned home to the UK and became a research Senior Registrar at The Royal London Hospital. When Sean had completed his research he was enrolled as the first doctor to be trained at St Barts & The Royal London, on the newly developed pain fellowship course. He also spent time at Texas Tech University, USA for a 4 week pain intervention course.
Sean took up an NHS consultant post in Pain Medicine & Anaesthesia at Oldchurch & Harold Wood Hospitals in Essex. He then transferred to a second consultant post at St Barts & The Royal London. During this time he was awarded the Fellow of the faculty of Pain Medicine Royal College of Anaesthetists. Sean then established and developed his clinical practice, before leaving the NHS and developing a Pain Medicine & Anaesthetic practice in the independent sector in 2001. After 3 years he gave up his anaesthetic work to concentrate fully on Pain Medicine as part of a multi-disciplinary unit.
To continue his professional development he undertook a higher international qualification, achieving the Fellowship of the Institute of Pain Practice under the auspices of the World Institute of Pain. Latterly, he continue to be an active member of this organisation, lecturing and demonstrating techniques to the next generation of doctors interested in this field.
In 2014 Sean joined forces with Nicola George, who is the Clinical Manager, to establish the London Pain Service.
Miss Nicola George
After leaving school Nicola went to college for two years to work towards an AMSPAR diploma in medical administration, during this time Nicola had specific classes to learn medical terminology and had the opportunity of work experience placements in two NHS GP practices and at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
Following her placement at St Bartholomew’s Hospital Nicola was invited to apply for a position as Junior Secretary in the Department of Anaesthesia, part of this role was to help run the administration side of a five consultant Pain Clinic; it is here that Sean, a newly qualified consultant was based.
Early in Nicola’s career she spent a lot of time temping as a medical secretary in different NHS hospitals and gained experience in various medical and surgical specialities. This taught her invaluable knowledge and skills in dealing with patients and emergencies. At this time Nicola realised how passionate she was for her chosen career and the ability it gave her to help the patients.
A combination of a wealth of medical experience, and her skills gained over 17 years as a medical secretary and Practice Manager, has now given her the opportunity to develop her role as a Clinical Manager at London Pain Service, addressing all aspects of the patient care.
